Frequently asked questions
How are tuition and fee payments used?
Arrow

Tuition covers time in the classroom with instructors. Fees cover variable charges incurred on behalf of the student and may be charged throughout the year (similar to other schools). Fees cover things like registration, costumes, concerts, tours (if applicable), learning software, etc.

Is tuition weekly or monthly?
Arrow

Tuition is charged monthly on the first. To ensure timely payments and avoid late fees, we recommend setting up autopay on your account. Late fees are applied to any unpaid balances after the 8th.

What does "MDT" mean?
Arrow

MDT stands for Music, Dance, Theater, and represents our 'triple-threat' curriculum. MDT-focused classes and companies will provide students with training in all three disciplines: vocal, dance, and acting. These classes and companies tend to focus more on the performing arts that require MDT skills, such as Musical Theatre.

Do our students perform?
Arrow

Yes! COPA Students receive performance opportunities based on the classes and companies they attend. Group Voice and Acting classes have 3 master class performances per year. Dance classes perform in Winter and Spring recitals. MDT (Music, Dance, and Theater) classes perform in Winter and Spring recitals and have two solo showcases per year. Company students should plan to have several performances each year.

How does COPA work?
Arrow

At COPA, we offer two main options to fit your needs: Performing Companies and Classes. Our Performing Companies run on a yearly contract from July to June of the following year, with auditions in May, and provide a more intensive, comprehensive training experience in dance, music dance theater (MDT), musical theater, vocal performance, or acting. If you prefer flexibility, our Open Enrollment Classes allow you to start or stop anytime (with a 30-day cancellation notice), and cover dance, music dance theater, voice, and acting.

How do I get access to the COPA app?
Arrow

Once you are enrolled, just ask your instructor to gain access to the app! You can then use this website to find and log in to any accounts.

What happens if my child is in a Performing Company but then they get into a show they auditioned for?
Arrow

We love when our students get to perform! We do expect our students to keep their company commitment as they find opportunities outside of COPA, so if you know of conflicts at the beginning of the year, please list them in your company contract for consideration. If the student is cast after the contract is signed they should reach out to their company director. In rare circumstances, performance exemptions can be granted, but tuition is not refunded.

How can I rent a dance studio at COPA?
Arrow

Right from this website! Just click on 'more' in the menu.

How would I unenroll from COPA?
Arrow

For Open Enrollment Classes, we have a 30-day cancellation policy. To withdraw from one of these classes, please send an email to info@utahcopa.com, and your cancellation will be processed 30 days from the date we receive your request. Performing Companies have an annual commitment running from July through June of the following year. Cancellations are generally not permitted, except under extreme extenuating circumstances, which we evaluate on a case-by-case basis.

How should I expect to be billed during months with few or no classes?
Arrow

Total tuition is summed up and distributed evenly each month for consistent billing. This means that if you happen to have 5 classes during a month when you would normally only have 3 classes, the monthly tuition payment will not increase. The same rule applies for months where there are few or no classes scheduled (such as December).
